We are excited to hear you are coming to the 11th edition of the World Glaucoma Congress in Honolulu, Hawaii. To prepare and make your stay more pleasant, we offer you here some tips to help you discover everything this island has to offer.

Weather

Weather in Honolulu during June/July is the month with the least rain. The days are steady warm and the evenings comfortable. Expect the temperatures to be between 27-30 C (low-mid 80s F) during the day and between 20-21 (low 70s F) during the night and early mornings.

With warmer and drier weathers like this, make sure you pack light. Some essentials include light tops, hats, sunglasses and most importantly, sunscreen!

Pearl Harbor National Memorial

A National Historic Landmark located in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. It commemorates one of the most pivotal moments in U.S. history: the attach on Pearl Harbor in 1941, which led to the United States’ entry into World War II.

Lolani Palace

One of Hawaii’s most honored landmarks. Journey through the times of happiness and tragedy of King Kalakaua, his heir and sister Queen Lili’uokalani with a view of their two-story American Florentine-style palace.

Waikiki Historic Trail

Is a wonderful way to explore the area’s rich history and culture. The markers feature descriptions of Waikiki through the ages, from its days as sacred space for Hawaiian royalty.

Diamond Head

Also known as “Leahi” in Hawaiian, is an ancient volcanic crater located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Diamond Head’s volcanic tuff once formation dates back nearly 300,000 years. The hike to the summit is a must-do experience.

Foster Botanical Garden

The historical 13.5-acre municipal botanical garden in Downtown Honolulu is a sight to see, who will appreciate the thousands of rare native and introduced plants, including trees officially designated as “exceptional” by the City & County of Honolulu.

Food Culture in Hawaii

Hawaiian cuisine is a beautiful tapestry of flavors and traditions. In Hawaii, ancient customs meet global influences brough to Hawaii over many generations, giving local food culture more layers than a Maui onion.

Pupu

Pupu is the Hawaiian term for appetizer, and every local restaurant in Hawaii offers a wide range of creative Pupu platters to dine on, from poke dishes to sushi.

Loco Moco

A hamburger steak and egg over rice covered in gravy. Loco Moco is served throughout the islands.

Malasadas

A Portuguese doughnut. Although Leonard’s Bakery in Kapahulu is popular on O’ahu, any local can tell their favorite bakeries on each island to find these fresh treats.

Shaved Ice

These finely shaved snow cones are served with colorful flavors on the top with a choice of ice cream or azuki beans on the bottom.
